There is a scent of cedar in the air – emitted by Xavier Veilhan's work Cedar. Alongside the walls the discs of a cedar trunk are lined up at chest height. If one stacked the 4 cm thick pieces back together in the sequence they are lined up in, they would form the original trunk of an about 50 year old tree, from its root to its first branches. These approximately two and a half meters of trunk are the most precious part of the tree, since it's an even wood without any knots. In addition to the scent, in some quiet moments there is the sound of the wood cracking, reacting to the room's climate. The age rings in the wood are like a cross section of 50 years of history. The cracks in the wood are witnesses of all transports and changes in location the wood gets exposed to. It keeps registering its surrounding.
