By way of an interdisciplinary work method, oscillating between object art, performance, film and installation, Ingrid Hora (*1976, Italy) realises works in which she deals with socio-political themes and tests social framework conditions. In the forecourt of the Sala Trenker, i.e. in public space, the biennale presents her work “Palindrome” (2014), which consists of a series of handrails, similar to those of wheelbarrows, arranged in a circle, which in the middle are connected through a wooden platform. The exhibition at Sala Trenker, meanwhile, includes the object “The great leap forward” (2011), a sculpture made of metal, assembled from several handrails as used in the walking aids for elderly persons. The visitors are invited to interact with the object, but no single person can move the object, it requires a whole group. The aim of the action is the experimental testing of a possible collective behaviour, performed by several individuals. In this way it is possible to experiment as to how people behave as soon as they begin to interact as a collective in altered circumstances. How do we make decisions as a community, who takes control, who takes on a subordinate role, how do we feel what the others do, and how do we react? Ingrid Hora, in other words, provides us with a playing field, on which to rehearse situations that challenge us as a society, especially at a time when we are confronted with perpetual change. Especially in the aggravated conditions of the pandemic and social distancing, the ability to act together flexibly becomes a crucial question in view of our future as social beings.

Il lavoro di Ingrid Hora (*1976, Italia) oscilla tra object art, performance, film e installazione, affronta temi socio-politici e mette alla prova determinate condizioni sociali.

Sul piazzale di fronte alla Sala Trenker si trova si trova la sua opera “Palindrome” (2014), che consiste in una serie di corrimano disposti in cerchio, simili a quelli delle carriole, che sono collegati tra loro al centro da una piattaforma di legno. Nella mostra nella Sala Trenker, invece, si incontra The “Great Leap Forward” (2011), una scultura in metallo composta da diversi corrimano simili ai deambulatori per anziani.

I visitatori sono invitati a interagire con le due opere, ma nessuno da solo può spostare l’oggetto perché pesante e richiede l’aiuto di un gruppo. Scopo dell’azione è la sperimentazione di un possibile comportamento collettivo: come si prendono le decisioni come comunità, chi prende il comando, chi è subalterno, in che modo l’azione degli altri modifica il nostro agire? Ingrid Hora ci offre un campo di gioco in cui le situazioni da lei ricreate portano in scena alcune delle sfide che incontriamo come società. Tanto più in un periodo di cambiamenti costanti e in epoca di pandemia e di distanziamento sociale, la capacità di agire collettivamente diventa un aspetto fondamentale del nostro futuro come esseri sociali.

Ingrid Hora (*1976, Italien) realisiert anhand einer multidisziplinären Arbeitsweise zwischen Objektkunst, Performance, Film und Installation Werke, in denen sie sich mit soziopolitischen Themenfeldern beschäftigt und gesellschaftliche Rahmenbedingungen austestet. Auf dem Vorplatz des Trenker Saales im öffentlichen Raum befindet sich ihre Arbeit „Palindrome“ (2014), welche aus einer Reihe von kreisförmig angeordneten Handläufen besteht, ähnlich jenen von Schubkarren, welche in der Mitte durch eine hölzerne Plattform miteinander verbunden sind. Weiters ist in der Ausstellung des Trenker-Saales das Objekt „The Great Leap Forward“ (2011) zu sehen, eine Skulptur aus Metall, zusammengesetzt aus mehreren Handläufen ähnlich den Gehhilfen für ältere Menschen. Die Besucher*innen sind aufgefordert, mit den Objekten zu interagieren und als Gruppe gemeinsam an den Objekten in Aktion zu treten. Es ist jedoch nicht möglich, als Einzelperson diese Objekte zu bewegen, es bedarf immer mehrerer Mitakteure. Auf diese Weise kann experimentiert werden, wie sich Menschen verhalten, sobald sie als Kollektiv unter veränderten Rahmenbedingungen miteinander in Aktion treten. Wie trifft man als Gemeinschaft Entscheidungen, wer übernimmt das Kommando, wer ordnet sich unter, wie spürt man was die anderen tun, und wie reagiert man darauf? Ingrid Hora bietet uns ein Spielfeld, in dem Situationen erprobiert werden können, welche uns als Gesellschaft fordern, gerade in Zeiten, in denen wir steten Veränderungsprozessen unterworfen sind. Die Fähigkeit des flexiblen gemeinsamen Agierens wird vor allem auch unter den erschwerten Bedingungen der Pandemie und der sozialen Distanz zu einer grundlegenden Betrachtung unserer Zukunft als soziale Wesen.
