Sharon Lockhart (*1964, USA) is internationally recognised for films and photographs that frame the quiet moments of everyday life. Her films emphasise the photographic qualities of the moving image, and by way of the scenes she stages the process of filmmaking itself can be reflected on. 

With her 16mm film “Pine Flat” (2005) she carries on the exploration of the formal aspects of film and photography and their interrelation. Set against the backdrop of a rural village in California’s Sierra Nevada mountains, the feature-length film and large-scale portraits focus on the community’s youth and the experience of American childhood. The film emerged from Lockhart’s desire to create a vision of youth that is more intimate, yet unspoiled by sentiment. On the occasion of the opening ceremony of Biennale Gherdëina 7, the film will be projected at the hay shed of the mountain farm Pilat, situated 1,525 metres above sea level, to connect childhood and nature with the desire for worldmaking. Another part of Lockhart’s project Pine Flat, the music from the album “Stuff I Like”, performed by twelve-year old Balam Garcia, will be presented at the restaurantTraube

Mettendo in scena le immagini con un metodo che ricorda quello cinematografico, i suoi film sottolineano le qualità fotografiche dell’immagine in movimento. Con il film 16mm “Pine Flat” (2005) l’artista continua l’esplorazione degli aspetti formali del cinema e della fotografia e del loro rapporto. Ambientato in un villaggio rurale nelle montagne californiane della Sierra Nevada, il lungometraggio e i ritratti su larga scala si concentrano sulla gioventù della comunità e sull’infanzia negli Stati Uniti. Il film nasce dal desiderio di Lockhart di creare una visione della giovinezza più intima, non ancora addomesticata nei sentimenti. In occasione della cerimonia di apertura della Biennale Gherdëina 7, il film è stato proiettato nel fienile del maso Pilat a 1525m di altitudine per istituire un legame tra l’infanzia, la natura e il desiderio di creare il mondo. Sempre parte del progetto “Pine Flat”, la musica del vinile “Stuff I Like”, eseguita dal dodicenne Balam Garcia, è stata presentata e suonata all’osteriaTraube a Ortisei.

Ihre Filme betonen die fotografischen Qualitäten des bewegten Bildes, und anhand der von ihr inszenierten Szenen kann der Vorgang des Filmemachens selbst reflektiert werden. 

Mit dem 16mm-Film „Pine Flat“ (2005) setzt die Künstlerin ihre Auseinandersetzung mit den formalen Aspekten von Film und Fotografie und deren Wechselbeziehung fort. Vor der ländlichen Kulisse eines Dorfes in den Bergen der Sierra Nevada in Kalifornien erzählt der abendfüllende Spielfilm von den Jugendlichen der Gemeinde und deren Erfahrungen einer amerikanischen Kindheit. Der Film entstand auf Lockharts Wunsch hin, eine intimere Vision der Jugend zu schaffen, die in ihren Gefühlen noch nicht gezähmt ist. Anlässlich der Eröffnungszeremonie der Biennale Gherdëina 7 wurde der Film im Heustadel des Bergbauernhofes Pilat auf 1.525 Metern Seehöhe projiziert, um die Themen von Kindheit und Natur mit dem Wunsch nach Weltgestaltung zu verbinden. Ein weiterer Teil von Lockhart‘s Projekt „Pine Flat“, die Musik der Schallplatte „Stuff I Like”, aufgeführt vom zwölfjährigen Balam Garcia, wird im Wirtshaus Traube präsentiert und gespielt.
