His new work for the Biennale Gherdëina, Tautology is a particular kind of portraiture. The artist cuts in the Dolomites’ stone the scientific formula the mountains are designated by, thus overlapping a variety of languages the subject matter has been written by. The visual and the semantic collide, so the material as well as a site-specific aspect of a newly created work, displayed in a picturesque and sublime landscape of the Dolomite’s Sassolungo. Echoing the artistic practice of Arte Povera, or conceptual approach of Josef Kosuth, Perathoner negotiates the meaning and the semantics of the representation through a spatial and temporal vertigo of his work.

Questa nuova opera per la Biennale Gherdëina VI, Tautology, costituisce una particolare forma di ritratto. L’artista ha tagliato nella dolomia la propria formula scientifica, sovrapponendo così la varietà di linguaggi impiegati per scriverne. Il visivo si scontra con il semantico, così come la materia con la natura site-specific in un’opera creata ex novo ed esposta nel paesaggio pittoresco e sublime di Sassolungo nelle Dolomiti. Riecheggiando la pratica artistica dell’Arte Povera o l’approccio concettuale di Josef Kosuth, Perathoner si confronta con il significato e la semantica della rappresentazione evocando vertigini spazio temporali.

Tautology, eine neue Arbeit für die Biennale Gherdeina ist ein besonderes Portrait. Der Künstler schneidet die wissenschaftliche Formel, nach der die Berge entstanden sind, in den Dolomitenstein, und so überlappen sich verschiedene Sprachen, in denen das Subjekt geschriebenwurde. Das Visuelle und das Semantische prallen aufeinander, und das tun auch das Material und der ortsspezifische Aspekt einer neugeschaffenen Arbeit, die in der pittoresken und erhabenen Landschaft des Langkofels in den Dolomiten dargestellt ist. Indem er die künstlerische Praxis der Arte Povera oder den konzeptuellen Ansatz von Josef Kosuth aufgreift, lotet Perathoner die Bedeutung und die Semantiken der Repräsentation durch einen räumlichen und zeitlichen Schwindel in seiner Arbeit aus.
