Bernardi’s contribution to the Biennale Gherdëina 5 consists of a trio of interventionist site-specific works of a nature.The German word ZEIT ("time" in English) describes a clock on the facade of St. Anthony church in a conceptual Josef Kosuth-style. The meaning and the readability literally depends upon the angle of viewing, almost in a similar way like the hand of the clock traveling along the sun and its shadow indicating proper time… In another work, cast in iron, accumulated layers of snowflake patterns might be seen as remnants of a former season, “saved” in a church’s sacred storage. Bernardi deals with nature’s fleeting moments and the ephemerality of experience. His spider-like structure is in fact modeled after the haphazard mountain ski routes. All three works by Michele Bernardi, presented in the Biennale Gherdëina are poetic translations of longing and remembrance.
